Pastoral Council
The St. Ann Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body
of parishioners. The council is made up of 11 regular members
selected by discernment process and five Ex-Officio members
who meet on the third Wednesday of each month. Membership term
on the council is three years.
The purpose of the Pastoral Council is to assist the Pastor
and other parish priests to carry out the mission statement
of the Parish, the Archdiocese and the Church. The Council
serves in a consultative capacity only, and makes recommendations
to assist the Pastor in making decisions related to the spiritual
growth of St. Ann Parishioners.
Finance Council
The Finance Council is regulated by universal law as well
as by norms issued by the Archbishop of New Orleans. In this
council the Christian faithful aid the pastor in the administration
of parish goods in order to carry out the mission of the parish
with due regard for the prescriptions of Canon 532 of the Code
of Canon Law. The pastor appoints members who have expertise
in the areas of finance, accounting, administration and law
for a three-year term. The council acts in an advisory capacity
to the pastor. The council meets several times during the year
with the pastor, generally on a quarterly basis, but also for
any other special projects requested by him. The Finance Council
looks to the Parish Pastoral Council for a statement of the
mission of the parish, a pastoral plan and parish priorities.
Building Committee
The Building Committee was originally
formed shortly after the new St. Ambrose parish was carved
out of the existing St.
Philip Neri and St. Clement of Rome parishes. The members consisted
of parishioners that were concerned with the ultimate growth
of the parish. The Building Committee was also involved in
the coordination of the fund drive that related to the construction
of the temporary church. As the parish census grew, more buildings
were added (church, classrooms, convent, parking lot, rectory,
gym and pre-school) to better facilitate the needs of the parish.
Several additional properties have been acquired during the
past few years. The use of these properties will be considered
in the master plan that is being developed for the parish.
Over the past years, many small projects have also been completed
(additional parking lot, landscaping, replacement of the gym
façade, routine replacement of aging air conditioning
and electrical equipment). The Committee meets on a varied
monthly schedule and welcomes any parishioner who is involved
in building construction and design - or just plain concerned
- that the parish facilities meet the needs of our ministries
and organizations.
Stewardship Committee
Organized in August, 2003, the Stewardship Committee's purpose
is to educate itself on Stewardship as a Way of Life. The committee
coordinates and conducts the annual Stewardship Education Program
and Renewal Appeal. They foster and encourage all parish members
to contribute time, talent and treasure to serve the needs
of the parish community.
The pastor, upon consultation with the Pastoral Council and
Pastoral Staff, selects committee members. The committee consists
of 8-10 members, which include a member of the Finance Council
and the Business Manager. Members are eligible to serve two
two-year terms.
Men's Club
The St.
Ann Men's Club (http://www.stannmensclub.org) was formed
as a means for the men of the parish to provide social activity,
service
to
the
parish
and community, and to develop spiritual awareness. Membership
is open to all men of the parish. Members are active in many
endeavors, such as the annual fair, dances, golf tournament
and a summer cabbageball league for the children of the parish.
In addition, our social activities include an annual crawfish
boil, monthly dinners, and seafood dinners during Lent. Meetings
are held the third Monday of every month. Dinner is provided
and guest speakers are generally invited.
Family Fest Committee
The St. Ann Parish Family Fest Fair is the single largest
fundraiser which the parish participates in annually. The fair
takes place during the first weekend of October on the school
grounds. Although all of the proceeds are given directly to
the school, the Fair is a parish function. The fair would not
be the successful fundraiser that it is without the help and
support of the entire parish.
This year for the first time, three
co-chair couples rather than one chairman will manage the
Fair. The committee consists
of 10-12 persons who work along with the co-chair couples.
Those standing committees are Publicity and Entertainment,
Security, Food, Booth Captains, Donations & Sponsors, Electrical,
Facilities, Finance, Permits, and Prizes & Raffle. Each
of these committees is then filled with people who wish to
work in these areas. After a two-year commitment, the three
co-chair couples step down so the three new co-chair couples
may step up. The outgoing co-chair couples will then serve
as an advisory committee to the new co-chair couples. This
will give the new co-chair couples a lending hand in how things
are organized and implemented to make our fair a success.
As you can see, this ministry requires many, many helping
hands. Even if you cannot commit to chairing a committee or
booth, there are many other ways that you can become involved.
What a wonderful way to thank God for His many blessings for
our parish and build a better parish family!
Money Counters
This ministry is supported by a group of volunteer parishioners
that count the contributions collected at the weekend masses.
The money counters meet weekly and prepare the money for deposit
into the parish bank account. This process involves sorting
and counting coins, paper currency, and checks from the regular
collections, and any special collections and candle money.
As with all ministries, the money counters provide an important
service to the pastor and the parish through their responsible
and expeditious processing of parish funds.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is an international organization of
Catholic men dedicated to promoting the concepts of charity,
unity, fraternity and patriotism. The KC's are a Catholic religious
organization helping the Church, its members and community
- especially to needy, the handicapped and the unborn babies.
The Knights of Columbus meet on the third Tuesday of the month.
They recite the rosary prior to every meeting.
