Anchored in Faith, Your Soul...Our Mission
Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) assist the priests and deacons of St. Ann Parish to distribute Holy Communion at Mass, to the homebound of the Parish and to the residents of Colonial Oaks Nursing Home. With the approval of the respective Catholic Chaplains, they also participate in the Pastoral Care Programs at East Jefferson and Tulane Lakeside Hospitals.
EMHCs are assigned regular service at Sunday Mass of their choosing. EMHCs also are called upon to serve at special liturgies and other celebrations throughout the year.
After being approved by the Pastor, new EMHCs are required to attend a basic workshop sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office of Worship and offered in the spring and fall.
If you feel you are being called to serve in this special ministry, please either send an e-mail to c[email protected] or call Debbie Sommers at the parish office 504-455-7071 x2221 to make an appointment with the Pastor, Fr. Billy, to be approved to attend an upcoming workshop to receive a five-year delegation to serve.
Host Ministers line up on Loveland, Chalice ministers line up on Meadowdale starting at the gold handrail. This is position 1.
Chalice Ministers 1 and 2 receive Communion first from the Priest and then Minister 1 stands on the Loveland side of the Tabernacle and Minister 2 stands on the Meadowdale side to serve Holy Communion to the remaining EMHCs.
After all Ministers receive Communion, you will move to your position as shown in the diagram below.
Also, when you are finished serving your position and move to another side to help, please stand midway directly in front of the first pew to facilitate the flow of people. Do not stand on the Sanctuary side, as it blocks up the flow of traffic.
As always, if there is a Priest or Deacon present, an EMCH will need to step back.
