Anchored in Faith, Your Soul...Our Mission
Sacristans support the priests and deacons to help ensure that the Mass and other religious functions proceed as smoothly as possible. They prepare everything necessary for the proper celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. For example, prior to Mass, altar candles are lit, the offering is prepared with the needed quantity of hosts in the ciborium and wine in the decanter. The priest’s chalice, extraordinary ministers’ ciboria and chalices with purificators, water-filled cruet and hand-washing bowl and towel are prepared and staged. After Mass, altar candles are extinguished, the tabernacle is locked and all items are returned to the sacristy, where they are cleaned and placed in their designated locations, including the ciboria and chalices, after they have been purified by the priest or deacon. Designated church lights are turned off and the sacristy is locked.
