Each year, St. Ann’s Faith Formation pulls together a complete two-week-long Vacation Bible School for students ages four and up. Activities include games, crafts, Bible stories, drama skits, music, snacks and videos. Volunteers can help with planning, coordinate a station, be a leader guide, an assistant, help with snacks, music, skits, or stories. Currently, adult volunteers are paid for their hours worked while students in grades 5 thru high school receive volunteer service hours. This activity is a once-a-year project that is very exciting, fun, and memorable.
Volunteers may call the church office at 455-7071, ext. 225 to express their interest in helping out. Planning begins as early as January, with March beginning the crucial planning sessions. Volunteer Positions:
Camper Guide (ALL 6th-7th graders) - The role of the Camper Guide is simple and straightforward, although it is also very crucial. There will be at least one Camper Guide for every five campers. The task of the Camper Guide is to ensure that each camper’s needs are taken care of throughout the day. To this end, the Camper Guide will assist the campers in each station, make sure that the campers are accounted for as the they transition from station to station, and ensure that bathroom breaks are taken without issue. Issues regarding the campers should be handled through the Group leader, and ultimately the VBS Director. Simply put, the Camper Guide should ensure that the campers are having a fun, educational, and positive memorable experience.
Preschool Guide (Only high school students!) - Preschool Guides serve in the same capacity as the Camper Guides except for one crucial difference. There will be ONE Preschool Guide for every ONE Preschool camper! This is to ensure that each preschool camper has a wholesome and same experience at St. Ann VBS. Acting as a "buddy", the Preschool Guide will be the direct link of the preschool camper with the VBS experience. As such, the Preschool Guide must be able to work 8:30 am - 3:00 pm, and remain with the preschool camper throughout the day, including in the stations, at lunch time, rest time, recess, large group activities and dismissal.
Kindergarten Guide - The Kindergarten Guides will serve the same purpose as the Preschool Guide with the exception that the Kindergarten Guides will leave at 12:00 noon along with the Camper Guides. There will be ONE Kindergarten Guide for each Kindergarten camper.
Group Leader – Responsibilities of the Group Leader would be to supervise each camper guide (whose responsibility is to take care of up to 5 campers) to ensure that the camper guides are fulfilling their responsibilities, ensure that each group is kept together throughout the day, ensure that bathroom breaks are completed without issue, and to keep the group on schedule, transitioning from station to station. The Group Leader is the person(s) to whom any issues within the group are handled or brought to the attention of the front desk or the VBS Director.
Craft Station - The craft station is the place where the campers create crafts that lend toward the VBS theme for each day. Volunteers in this station will explain the crafts, making the connection to the VBS theme, show examples of the crafts, and assist the campers in making the crafts wherever necessary. In addition, volunteers will assist to keep the room clean, coordinate the crafts to each camper and help the adult coordinator in this station in whatever is needed.
Video Station - In the video Station, campers will have an opportunity to view an exciting video that connects with the VBS theme for the day. Volunteers in this station will welcome campers, share the theme for the day, introduce the video, start and stop the videos at the appropriate times. In addition, volunteers may distribute snacks to each camper, when available. Volunteers will also ensure that the room is kept clean throughout the day and help the adult coordinator in this station in whatever is needed.
Snack Station - Each day, the campers will have an opportunity to share a snack that is in some way connected to the VBS theme of the day. Volunteers will help to create the themed-snacks, distribute them to the campers, along with a drink, and connect the snacks each day with the daily VBS theme. In addition, volunteers will ensure that the snack station and cafeteria is clean and tidy. This will include cleaning tables, utensils, floors, and taking out trash and help the adult coordinator in this station in whatever is needed.
Game Station - The Game Station is a place where students get a chance to expend some energy while still maintaining a focus on the VBS theme each day. Volunteers will welcome campers, share the theme for the day, introduce the games and make the connection to the VBS theme for the day. At all times, volunteers will work to ensure the safety of the campers as well as helping them to enjoy the time at VBS. Volunteers will also ensure that the room is kept clean throughout the day and help the adult coordinator in this station in whatever is needed.
Bible Adventure Station Volunteers – This station presents the Bible story of the day in a dramatic presentation to the campers. Volunteers here will assist the adult coordinator in presenting the Bible story and to help engage the campers.
Drama Station – The main goal of the Drama Station volunteers is to present the Bible them for the day to the large group of campers at the end of the first part of the day. Having said this, the volunteers will create and practice, along with the VBS director, a closing skit to be performed at 11:40 a.m. each day. Also, on Fridays of each week, the Drama Station volunteers will perform the shortened skit of each day with the parents and families during the closing ceremony.
Music Station - Each week of VBS includes unique songs that tie in the VBS theme for each day. At the end of each week, the campers will perform the songs and explain the theme of each day for their families. Volunteers in the Music Station will welcome campers, share the theme for the day, introduce each song and make the connection to the VBS theme for the day. Volunteers will also ensure that the room is kept clean throughout the day and help the adult coordinator in this station in whatever is needed.
Administrative Assistants – Administrative Assistants assist at the front desk to be the face of those welcoming campers, volunteers and parents to our VBS program. Their responsibilities will be to assist sign-in, acceptance of camper lunches to be placed in the cubbies, assist with various issues that arise during the day (such as injuries or spills), bathroom issues (restocking of toilet tissue or paper towels), calling parents if a child must leave and signing campers or volunteers out if they leave.
